About Insight Meditation Fort Wayne

The primary form of meditation practiced at Insight Meditation Fort Wayne is Insight Meditation, also known as Vipassana.

Our Mission is to share the Buddha's teachings with all those who are interested, to provide support to deepen our meditation practice, and to bring wisdom and compassion into daily life.

Our Vision is to be an inclusive community of practice and study that provides a refuge for all people who seek the teachings of the Buddha.

Our group is led by Tammy Dyer who graduated from a two and a half year Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leaders Training Program (CDLP4) in 2012.  This program authorizes graduates to teach Dharma and meditation through classes, sitting groups, and daylong retreats and to serve our communities in deepening the Teachings of the Buddha.  This authorization is offered in the spirit of the Theravada lineage as it has come into the West.

About Insight Meditation Practice (Vipassana)

Insight Meditation, or Vipassana, has been practiced since the time of the Buddha, 2500 years ago.  It originates from the Theravada tradition, which is practiced primarily in Thailand, Burma, India, Sri Lanka, and other parts of Southeast Asia.  Other streams of Buddhism are Mahayana, practiced mainly in China, Japan, and Korea; and Vajrayana, practiced mainly in Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Insight Meditation is the practice of cultivating a precise nonjudgmental attention, which can clearly experience the present moment.  Often associated with Mindfulness Meditation, it supports the awakening of hearts and minds through the direct experience of the Buddhist path.
